They say “manners maketh men”. We say “rainy days maketh great car times”. And when those skies over Singapore bellow, we set forth to idyllic Canberra for some drive and dream-catching in damp coolness. This time, we brought 2 specials, both lesser seen these days, from the German marquees.
First up, the Audi R8. If there’s a supercar from the south western German powerhouse, this would be the main one, for it is forged in the heart of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which is one of the most intense race in the world. Mid-engined 2 seater that follows closely to the Lamborghini Gallardo, complete with the trademark Quattro all-wheel drive, it sits low and planted on the ground, but shoots hard and fast with a 4.2L V8 heart of pure adrenalin, cementing itself as the pinnacle of Audi performance. No great car comes without carbon bits, and ours stay true to this philosophy, with plenty of weight reduction complementing its already superb execution.
Then we have something else that makes you go “oh no” if you were foolish enough to challenge it. A Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, sleeper in every sense of the word. This W212 is also another V8 beast, but with an even bigger stomach, packing 6.2L of capacity in its heart. A gentleman’s performance car that’s perfectly marries functionality of a man with responsibilities and the need for speed, one could just easily picture this as the official ride of the Kingsman. Stage 1 tuned by MonsterTune, because sometimes, perfection isn’t enough.
Canberra has certainly been given some manners to keep.
